Natural Remedies
Are there natural remedies that will help with the symptoms of menopause. Also do you have to always go on hormones? Thanks.

I hope not, tater03. I have an aversion to taking any kind of medicine if I can possibly avoid it. I think it depends on the severity of your symptoms if you need HRT but don't take that as gospel.
I know that St John's Wort is supposed to help with mood swings. What you have to remember with herbal medicines though is they can be just as potent as normal ones and should be treated with respect. If you want to take them, always check with your doctor first to see if there may be any possible conflicts with any other medications you're on.

I am going to contact my doctor and have the blood work done so I can see if my symptoms are pre-menopausal. I have the worst night sweats, my moods are all over the place among other things. Hopefully you don't have to have hormones.

Sure there are. And no, you don't always have to go on hormones. I don't know all the tricks of the trade myself, but I would suggest finding a local health food type store which sells vitamins, minerals, etc. Find a place where the employees actually know something and ask their advice for some remedies.

Chaste berry, Dong Quai, Angelica, Cramp bark, Strawberry Leaf, Blue Cohosh root and Wild Yam will regulate the periods (rarely occurs with menopause) and ease heavy, painful periods.
As every individual is unique, it’s highly recommended to observe the reactions carefully within few weeks of using herbs for menopause.

You should only drink this when you are at home and in the evenings, but I found drinking Tension Tamer Tea helped a great deal with my moods. I'm sure there are other teas that work as well but this is the tea I used and found beneficial. The night sweats are awful. Try and keep a small fan nearby your bed that you can use. If you wake from a sweat and can't get back to sleep, two large cups of Tension Tamer will get you off to a good sleep again.

I have been in menopause for 13 or more years, and still suffer from hot sweats. In the later years I have been using whatever natural supplement is on sale or appeals to me at the time. Apparently they should be rotated as bodies will acclimate. I like RED CLOVER, WILD YAM, VITEX, BLACK COHOSH, there's more, and all have value.
I have FASD among other things, and gum disease, and all the related things from FASD, like alcoholism, addiction, ADHD, OCD, slight dislexia, relationship and financial problems and I'm 59 this year on July 10. And I'm sore all over. Everything is related and goes around in a viscious cycle in my body and mind. I've been to 5 treatment centres and years in AA and counselling trying to figure it out. Public Health Agency of Canada has a new fact sheet for FASD. So far out of the 15 or so clinicians I've seen in the last 4 years has not, I repeat, NOT, questioned me about exercise or nutrtional intake. That is specialists, family doctors, and mental health doctors and counsellors. NOW, and I hope its not too late realize that if my life had included a proper exercise regime for the last 40 years, I'd be a completely different person today, instead of overweight and depressed. I walk everyday, but not to where I can't SING. So my new regime for 2009 is to get off Anti-depressents, quit smoking pot, and increase my heart rate for 30 minutes 3 times a week, instead of just strolling.

One very important natural remedy is being with an understanding partner. Being ina relationship where your man supports you and does not hold you accountable for a change in you. Having a man who supports you, comforts you, is a natural rememdy and will make an everlasting stress reliever and let you deal with yourself in better more posistive state of mind.

I taped the Dr. Phil show, Tuesday April 21, which was about menopause. Robin McGraw mentioned Bioidentical Hormone therapy which are creams that were prescribed to Robin in accordance to here hormone levels and symptoms. I will be going to my doctor to have my blood tested again to see what hormones I am low in and discussing with him bioidentical hormone therapy. Additionally, I will be seeking out a gynocologist to discuss my symptoms as well.
