Default elderbery syrup; not just for pancakes!

I went to lunch with a couple of friends and one of them took out a bottle of elderberry syrup. She said that it is a great tonic and immune booster. She says it tastes so good she could put it on pancakes! None of us had ever heard of it before; anybody use this?

I have heard of it but never tried it. I am all for anything that will boost the immune system right about now. Seems like were always sick here lately.

Elderberry syrup is said to be good as a preventative against winter colds. I've personally never tried it, although I make elderflower cordial every year.

I grew up in a rural area where elderberries grew, and I enjoyed them when they were baked in pies.

I hadn't heard of the health benefits of them though.

Default elderbery syrup

When I was young my grandmother Always said this. But never really paid much attention. I have never tried it but if it works it is worth a try. Sorry I did not listen to my grandmother.

Riskey, I'm sorry as well that I didn't listen to my Granny, or didn't listen enough to her; I'm sure I lost alot of great advice. I think the only thing my Granny had to say about elderberries was that it made a good wine. Is a cordial the same as a wine?

Molly, I think Grannies have so much untapped wisdom, but the really sad thing is that we're not wise enough to listen to them when they dollop out the gems. That was my case for sure, it wasn't until I was deprived of her company that I realized how much knowledge she had.

The way the people move around now many children hardly know their grandparents. I think they may regret that when they are older,

I have never tried elderbery syrup, but elderbery tasts nice in drinks so I guess it would taste OK on pancakes.

I think you are right Kernow. My grandmother taught me so many things, and she was a big influence in my life.

I still have a jar of frozen elderberries in the fridge.

I think the only ones I've seen were picked by hand by friends or family. Are they distributed in major supermarkets?
