Default why does it take so long to see a psychiatrist?

I went to the doctor in May and told her I need to talk to someone for major depression related symptoms. She said she will set up an appointment and call me. I finally get a call from the receptionist last week saying I have an appointment for July 2012. Fortunately I feel a lot better than I did 4 months ago but I think it's pretty absurd that anyone suffering from major depression has to wait 14 months just to talk to a professional.

Anyone know of an alternate route I can take to getting help while I wait?

First, thing that you must know about psychiatrists i.e. a medically quallified practitioner who has spend at least 5-6 years training as doctor.
when consult with a psychiatrists they will tell you that how to:
1. assess person's state of mind
2. emphasises the person state of mind of past through biological model
3. diagnose a mental illness
4. help person to recover their disorder

psychiatrist is also in expert to recover mental disorder again that give person freedom to live as usual before.

when you are in touch with psychiatrist they recommend you
-- about psychological treatments
-- Meditations
-- practical ways to stay well
-- ways to get active, and get back to do things like

Default I hear ya

I've had the same experience-I made an appnt with a psychiatrist in. January 2011 and the appnt is at the end of october, its scary. I was fortunate enough to get into a program through the mental health clinic, a great resource if you need help and they have free counseling services if needed.
