Default worried about acid reflux, felt something weird at root of tongue

im going in to the doctor tomorow because i've had a problem with acid for the last few months (i know i should have gone earlier).

my throat was feeling irratated so i slid my finger down my tongue (i dont have much of a gag reflex) and felt something at the root of my tounge that was round, tissue like and symetrical. the globe i would approximate is 10 - 20mm. i could not get a visual,.

i didnt hurt and at first i thought it might have been on my esophagus, which was worrisome becuse of fear of esophageal cancer. upon another probing it seemed to be attached to to root of my tongue, right where the tongue meets the throat. anyone have any idead is this just a tongue musle or my epiglotis or a cyst or cancer?

any insight would be helpful, i'm going to ask the doctor tomorrow anyways it'd just be nice to have some background info, or hear someone else has this too.

I am not sure what you can feel, but it unlikely to be anything sinister. You are doing the right thing by checking out the symptoms with your doctor.

I've not had that experience, especially because of my gag reflex.

I think it's an excellent idea to see a doctor. As for basic heartburn and acid reflux, my doctor told me to think of the stomach as holding about 5 cups in volume.

So eating or drinking more than that would increase the chances of heartburn.

Reflux can really irritate the membrane right in the area you're concerned about, so you are wise to have it investigated.

Speaking of acid reflux, a friend of mine has it and takes medication for it. I think that the meds for it are quite expensive.

He avoids spicy foods to try to limit the discomfort, too.

Have you been to see the doctor yet? I would be very interested to know what was causing the problem. I hope it is OK now.
