Default Music To Help Go To Sleep?

I know some people like to have music playing while they try to go to sleep.

Do you find it helps you, or does it just keep your mind occupied and make it harder to go to sleep?

I tried playing music to go to sleep with. But it did not help me goto sleep. I kept sing the songs in my head, and could not go to sleep.

I can't go to sleep with music playing. It's the same when I'm working at the computer or doing something else I need to concentrate on. I need quiet, simple as that. Even a movie playing the background gets on my nerves.

I like complete quiet when I'm trying to sleep, but if I'm working at the computer, I like instrumental music playing, like classical or some movie soundtracks.

It depends. I had a phase where I could only fall asleep with some sort of background noise, mainly music, but now I can't sleep if there's music playing.

Music keeps me awake, but I can certainly fall asleep with the TV going...! Not sure how I developed this talent (?) but I find now that I can't post as quickly or effectively unless I have some music going.

I don't mind music going if that's all I'm doing, listening to music. I find pan pipes really relaxing in fact or harp. Just don't ask me to do anything else while my ears are tuned to that apart from put my feet up on the couch.

I have never been able to go to sleep with music on. I do have to have the TV on as background noise. It just helps me not to run things that happened during the day over and over in my mind when I am trying to go to sleep.

Now I sleep better if it is quiet, but when I worked the 4pm to midnight emergency room shift, I used to have trouble falling asleep. I found that listening to soft "New Age" type music such as Enya calmed me down and relaxed me enough to drift off.

I like to listen to the TV. I know it seems strange, but I will pick a channel that suits my mood and it will put me to sleep faster than music will.

I also sleep well to the sound of a fan; that "white noise" is very soothing to me. When I was a kid, I used to go to sleep to the sound of the air conditioner humming, but now that keeps me up because I'm stressing about how high the utility bill will be.

One thing I can't do when music is on is read. It doesn't matter whether it is instrumental or lyrical. I find myself reading the same bit over and over again.

I can fall asleep under virtually any circumstances!

When I'm driving I find that I concentrate on the road better when I have music playing. Without it, my brain goes into daydream mode and I forget to concentrate on the road. When there's background music on I haven't got enough brain power left to go into a deep daydream!

I can fall asleep with the TV on, too. Usually I tune it to a sitcom or a documentary.

I always have the radio on when I go to sleep, but it is the spoken word rather than music, I don't like listening to music.

I like listening to classical music before going to sleep. It relaxes me and gives my mind something to focus on other than my day.

All I can handle is white noise... which is very necessary for me to go to sleep. If it's music or talking, I find myself concentrating too much on whatever it is and not sleeping.

I need a fan on in the room to sleep now. When it's too cold, it's turned in another direction, but always running.

When I was younger, I liked going to sleep with a music tape in the tape recorder... but the click when it turned off always woke me so I finally found wisdom and decided that quick falling asleep really didn't mean much if I was going to get clicked awake an hour later.

I hate having music playing so I certainly wouldn't find it restful. I like to have the radio on when I go to sleep but it has to be the spoken word rather than music.

I usually fall asleep with the TV on...before I want to mainly! My husband and I like to see the late night comedians and have a good laugh. It relaxes us into sleep mode.
