I don't usually have a problem falling asleep, but if I am woken up in the night I really struggle to get back to sleep, I find having the radio on quietly helps.

There is a CD called Bountiful Bach (Bach being played on an acoustic guitar) that we put on when we are feeling in a romantic mood. We were having a party about a week ago, and right before we expected the folk to arrive, I put that CD on because I thought it would be nice mellow music. Almost immediately my hubby came round the corner and told me he can't listen to that particular music without "getting into the mood", and could I please find another CD?

We have an air cleaner machine in our room which always runs which is similar to white noise. It is always on low so not too loud. We also have tv and security cams that we sometimes put on. The security cams are fun because you can see interesting stuff when your eyes pop open for no reason. We have a sound machine too if we want but usually forget to use it. I like noise and action when I sleep and can sleep through anything when I really need the sleep once I have passed out. We have a private sunroom off the bedroom so if I wake up and could not sleep I just go to the sunroom and fall asleep on the couch eventually with the tv on, that way I don't wake the other half but I can drift off again. My worst habit is falling asleep in my office chair infront of my computer with the music and waking up with a cramp in my legs or feeling like I broke my neck, I really need to put a bench there so I will stop doing that.
I have to admit there is no preference of noise as long as there is some kind of noise and the only thing that wakes me up is if someone tries to walk around carefully for some reason. It took me a long time to convince the other half to do what is normal and not to worry about waking me up in the morning because it makes me think we are getting robbed by someone, must be some kind of paranoia or too many crime shows.

I can happily fall aleep with the radio on, but a ticking clock or the low hum of my husband's ipod when it sits on the speaker thing can keep me awake for ages.

i used to rely on music to fall asleep but over the years i started not being able to concentrate on sleeping and i'd just listen to every note played, or i'd tap to the rhythm of the song, etc . . . now i just need a constant sound like a fan turned on or some kind of droney sound. silence makes me stir crazy.

I am not keen on silence either, I don't like loud noise bit I have a radio in every room and in the car and I like to listen to it all the time, I don't like music I prefer the spoken word.

I think the thing to do is make it what you want it to be and you will get your best sleep. I decided to make my bedroom my favorite room, no clutter, nice colors and only a few calming pictures on the walls. My bed is soft and comfortable and I have the noise I want to hear at night and supposedly there is no real rule other then that for anyone who wants to sleep well. It just needs to be simple and personal and not busy. Also I have dark curtains so the light in the summer does not wake me up and I wake up on my own time when my body says it is time. My only problem is that there is a sunroom off the bedroom and the better half likes to get up early and brew a coffee in there in the mornings so sometimes I smell that and it wakes me but it still seems natural to wake up to rather then light in my eyes.

i knew someone who was like that. they now turn their hair dryer or vacuum on to go to sleep.
did you know that sleeping with a hairdryer is actually common (and dangerous) and often youll see a caution not to sleep with it in most user guides?

anyways...good luck with that.

Thats nuts. I had a friend try to do that when she stayed over at my house, She said she wanted the heat under her blankets, I said not here, it's too dangerous. If it is for noise level I think the best thing is an air purifyer because you are cleaning your night air while you sleep and getting the noise at the same time plus they don't cost lots to run either and your air is not moving like a draft, unless of course it is summer and you want that air movement. I like my house AC in summer so I still use the air cleaner so it picks up bits from the AC movement while I sleep and I still get to have the noise at night so it basically runs all year.

Talking MUSIC n SLEEP

I think music is the best medicine for sleeping. If you don't like music then listen it before sleeping, you will start to live music.
