When someone you love is diagnosed...
don't panic I can not imagine the panic that the diagnosed is suffering having just found out.
My mom was diagnosed with HIV when I was 12 and given very little time. We went to counceling which really did help my brothers and I as well as my Mother exactly what it was and what was happening to her body. Well I lost my mom 2 years ago to liver cancer which was indirectly caused by AIDS which she was diagnosed with 4 years after her HIV diagnosis. I am now 29 and had her 14 and a half years longer than they expected. I thank my lucky stars that we were all strong enough to not turn our backs on her and to actually get the facts.
