Default Any Luck

I no a lot of people who swear by chiropractors, but I'm a little skeptical. Years ago I went to one following a car accident and I don't think I felt any better at all after a few visits. Is it possible that I just went to a chiropractor that wasn't very good, or are they not all they are cracked up to be?

YOu need to be very careful with chiropractors and remember that they are moving your joints into an abnormal range. I started with a chiropractor at the beginning fo my chronic pain situation and I truly believe it made things worse. The abnormal movements probably triggered early arthritis.

I agree with SageMother that you have to be careful when choosing a chiro. For years I had a marvelous chiro with soft but strong hands and knew all the places where my spine was kind of tricky, and then after the session he would massage my back with some wonderful potion that smelled of wintergreen.
We moved away and there was only one chiro in the area, so I went to him. He smelled of cigarettes and had dirt under his fingernails. I wouldn't even let him touch my back.
So, you may have to check out a few before you find the right one. The kind of chiro you want will understand if you tell him you are shopping around. Hope your search is short. Good luck!

He most likely was using a lotion called sombra, it really is a great lotion. You have to be careful though it really is a powerful lotion. I use it for some of my massage clients that are having a lot of pain problems.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll do a bit more research before deciding whether or not to try another chiropractor

I have never been to a chiropractor. I think the reason is as a child you would always hear that they were not really a qualified doctor. I am not against them, just never been to one.

Your welcome, you can even buy it from some chiropractor offices. Mine sales it. Just buy a small amount and make sure you like it and that it is the right stuff.

I went to a chiropractor for a while and he was great, but my problem was more posture related rather than an injury.

This made me very leary as well, I think for a long while this profession wasn't respected as much as it probably should have been

I would opt for a Doctor of Osteopathy. They are medical doctors who also do adjustments. This means they can prescribe muscle relaxants when their adjustments cause muscle spasms.

I've only ever been to one chiropractic clinic, and the primary guy there is completely wonderful. Although the urgent problem I was suffering from is now healed, I'd love to be able to afford to see him for regular maintenance sessions.

However, when he's not been available and I've accepted appointments with other guys in the clinic I haven't felt that they've been so valuable. I'm not sure how much of this is in my head - perhaps I just have more of an affinity with the primary chiropractor, or perhaps he is genuinely better at it.

I used to go to chiropratic a few years back for neck and shoulder pain, but stopped quite awhile ago. He did an adjustment that did so much damage that there are still days that I have problems with my shoulder.

I think that I will stay with my regular doctor. She has helped me any many ways and I trust her.

I've never been to chiropractor either, though my grandmother used to swear by hers. However, I tend to be very sensitive to touch, and the idea of someone manipulating my spine just doesn't sound appealing, especially if I'm already having pain.

I was in a car accident and I paid a chiro alot of money. I think that they are just in it for the money. My back still hurts to this day and this was over 7 years ago.

Chiropractors charge alot of money to do something that your spouse could actually do for you to be honest.

My wife was in a car accident and she went to one and he did her a lot of good. Myself I do not believe in them, but she was better after treatments.

I guess it is an individual thing as well.

Honestly, with some chiropractors, it didn't seem to make much difference one way or another, but I truly believe the one I have had for the last 5 years has helped me so much! At one point I was seeing a pain clinic and on too many meds to count, feeling worse and then even worse from medication side effects. My current chiropractor was the only person who seemed to listen and believe me about how I felt and with his help, I got off all of the medications for pain/arthritis/etc and only now take something when it gets really bad, which is only occasionally. I am so thankful!

Chiropractors can cost a fair amount of money, yes, but your spouse *cannot* do this for you. Someone trying to manipulate your spine without knowing what they are doing could seriously injure you!

A spouse can help with acupressure, however.
